Heritage Day at Penn Center
Join the Praise House Project in the Gullah Geechee Coorridor during Gullah Geechee Heritage Month to attend the Penn Center Heritage Day. Then join Chef Oşunkoya for a culinary Sankofa for a traditional southern meal which pulls from the indigenous food ways, gathering customs and agricultural traditions of the Gullah people.

MLK Day of Service in South Atlanta
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was first buried at South-View Cemetery. His parents now rest there.
Audiences will be able to tour South-View and assist with the restoration efforts of Atlanta’s burial grounds for Atlanta’s first freedman, as well as lead a neighborhoo clean up and clothing drive.

SUNDAY DINNER - FEAST OF GRATITUDE
Join Chef Oșunkoya Chavon as she curates a special culinary Sankofa (looking back to see forward), as her menu and experiences honor our food ways and ancestral traditions of gathering to break bread.
All proceeds support the move of the Praise House to South-View. Be a part of this important act of remembrance.
Black History Tours at South-View Cemetery
Audiences will be led by historic interpreters on a Black history tour of South-View. Founded in 1886 by a collective of Atlanta Black businessmen in response to the mistreatment of Black families in segregated cemeteries, South-View Cemetery is the final resting place for over 80,000 African Americans today, many of whom have made significant contributions to American history and the struggle for freedom and peace. Among the many notables are many civil rights activists including Dr. Martin Luther King (before being moved) and his parents and more recently Congressman John Lewis.

Sankofa, a Ghanaian concept "To look back to see forward"
As a rites-of-passage and leadership training, the Praise House Project invites young people to learn about the traditional role of griot - community historian and storyteller.
